Clark Nicol
Clark Nicol studied painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee
under Alberto Morrocco and Jack Knox. After graduating in 1973 he moved to
London where he taught art while continuing to paint. After moving to Nottingham
in the 1980s his work began to develop its characteristic language of heavily textured
paint evoking atmospheric landforms. Frequent visits to his wife’s family in Devon
led to his discovery of Dartmoor which has since then been a great source of
inspiration to him. In 2002 they moved to West Devon with their two children
and Clark has focussed almost exclusively on the local landscape,
producing some of his finest work.
